Etymology
Inherited from Proto-Turkic *elti (“co-sister-in-law”), a word which, according to Nishanyan, derives from *ẹlt- (“to take or carry away”), the same root of ایلتمك (iletmek, “to take or carry away”). Cognate with Azerbaijani elti and Turkmen elti.
