Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀓𑁆𑀓 (pakka) without compensatory lengthening, from Sanskrit पक्व (pakva, “cooked”) (whence पकना (paknā, “to be cooked”)), from Proto-Indo-European *pₔkʷ-wó-s, from *pekʷ- (“to cook”). Cognate with Punjabi ਪੱਕਾ (pakkā).
