From ชุม (chum, to bring together; to call together; to summon; etc) +‎ พร (pɔɔn, blessing; benediction); oldest surviving record of the name dated 1908 BE (1365/66 CE); also believed to be a corruption of ชุม (chum, idem) +‎ พล (pon, armed force; member thereof), or a corruption of อุทุมพร (gular fig, a plant grown on the right bank of the city).[1]
