Burmese
Etymology
Inherited from Old Burmese တန်နှင်လာ.

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium. Particularly: “The last syllable is quite likely to be လ (la., “moon”). According to Luce, the first two syllables, *တန်နှင် (*tanhnang), mean "governor", adducing Old Chinese 政 (OC *tjeŋs, “government”) as a cognate,[1] so Monday would mean something like "governor of the moon".”
