Ultimately from Akkadian 𒅇𒆪𒊒𒌝 (Ù.KU.RU.UM /agurru, ukurru/),[1][2] the immediate source of borrowing probably being Persian آگور (âgur, “burned brick”)[3][4] (or most probably its Middle Persian antecedent).
