Wiktionary:Contributing without knowing Norwegian

Hello! Welcome to the Norwegian Wiktionary project, and thank you for deciding to help us improve it, even though you do not speak Norwegian. This page is meant to provide a crash course in how the Norwegian Wiktionary works, as it might be somewhat different from how it is done on other language versions.

The basic layout of a page is as follows:

• no is the ISO 630 code of the language which the word is taken from; these are identical to the language codes used on the Wikimedia projects.
• xxx represents the word class of the word; see the list at the bottom of this page.

Notice that word class is a separate header; it's not added using a template of the model {{-xxx-}}. The {{infl}} template automatically adds '''{{PAGENAME}}''', so there is no need to add it manually.

Also note that definitions are not capitalised.

For special cases:

• If you are working with a language which has grammatical genders, please add a parameter k= (k for kjønn, gender). The possible inputs here are: m (masculin), f (feminine), n (neuter), or c (common gender/utrum).
• If you are working with a language which is written using a script other than the Latin alphabet, please add a paremeter sc= (sc for script) and a parameter tr (tr for transcription).
  • The script code is the ISO 15924 code for the script in question. (If you have entered the script code correctly, but the template doesn't recognise it, please do not hesitate to alert us at Tinget; messages in English are more than welcome!)
  • The transcription should be in a recognised system for transcribing the language in question.

The names of the word classes in Norwegian mostly derive from Latin, and, as such, might not differ much from the names used in other languages. This list provides the names of word classes, both in full, for the header, and abbreviated, for easy input into the infl-template. (Notice that the full name of the word class can also be used in the template, if desired.)
