Borrowed from Old Persian, and suggested to be from Late Old Persian *Bēçā-, from Old Persian *Bayaçā-, formed from nouns related to Proto-Iranian *báyHati (“to fear”), and *θráHyati (“to protect”), respectively,[1] however, no such nouns are attested in Persian.
