From Arabic جُلَّاب (jullāb, “rosewater, julep”), itself from Persian گلاب (golâb, “rosewater”).[1] The term (as ζουλάπιον) is attested already in the 8th c. indicating a direct borrowing from Arabic rather than through Old Anatolian Turkish جلاب (cüllab).[2]
