Bulgarian
Etymology
From Proto-Slavic *perporъ, a variant of Proto-Slavic *porporъ (“stroke, waving”). The original Slavic lemma seems to be reduplicated action noun of Proto-Slavic *perti (“to propel”) (similar to Proto-Slavic *golgolъ (“word, verb”), *tǫtonъ/*tǫtenъ (“rumble, roar”)), but has been reanalyzed in Bulgarian as a derivative of Proto-Slavic *porъ (“advancement, push, strike”) with the prefix *per-.
