A dialectal word, that has entered also the literary language. Borrowed from Northern Kurdish mij, dialectal muj (mist, fog). In Dersim and Kiğı probably from Zazaki mıj. All ultimately from Proto-Indo-European *h₃meygʰ-, whence also Old Armenian մէգ (mēg). Thus, a doublet of մեգ (meg).
