Inherited from Chagatai , from Karakhanid , from Proto-Turkic *adak (foot).[1] Cognate with Turkish ayak, Azerbaijani ayaq, Turkmen aýak, Uzbek oyoq, Kazakh аяқ (aäq), Kyrgyz аяк (ayak), Khalaj hadaq etc. Doublet of ئاياغ (ayagh).
