Uncertain. Not found in Middle Persian. A link to Middle Persian 𐭯𐭠𐭫𐭮𐭩 (pʾlsy /⁠Pārs⁠/, “Persia”) is often suggested, with reference to the Zoroastrian notion that the Iranians were the chosen nation of God.[1]
