Causative verb derived from Aramaic כֵּשְׁטָּא (kešṭā), alternative form of Aramaic קֵּשְׁתָּא (qeštā, “bow”). Semantic development from the original meaning “to shoot an arrow” into “to hit the mark” or “to do right, be truthful”. Compare ܩܵܫܹܛ (qāšēṭ, “to gain weight”) and ܩܵܫܹܬ݂ (qāšēṯ, “to shoot an arrow; to bend, to curve”). Compare also in Classical Syriac ܩܫܲܛ (to shoot an arrow, “qšaṭ”).

1. (transitive) to recommend, advise

   ܡܵܐ ܟܹܐ ܡܲܟܫܛܸܬ ܥܲܠ ܠܘܼܚܝܼܬ݂ܵܐ؟ ― mā kē makšṭit ˁal lūḥīṯā? ― What do you recommend on the menu?

   ܐܵܣܝܵܐ ܡܘܼܟܫܸܛ ܠܹܗ ܡܸܢܝܼ ܕܢܵܝܚܹܢ. ― āsyā mukšiṭ lēh minī d-nāyḥēn. ― The doctor advised me that I rest.

2. (transitive) to advocate
