Etymology
Inherited from Prakrit 𑀧𑀮𑁆𑀮𑀢𑁆𑀣 (pallattha), 𑀧𑀮𑁆𑀳𑀢𑁆𑀣 (palhattha, “overturned”), from Sanskrit पर्यस्त (paryasta, “thrown about; overturned”).[1][2] However, Dasa disagrees, and derives it from Sanskrit परिस्तरण (paristaraṇa, “strewing round, heaping together; a cover, covering”).[3]
Compare Marathi पालथा (pālthā, “upside-down, overturned”) and पालथणें (pālathṇẽ, “to turn over”).
