From Proto-Indo-Iranian *HragʰwíH (“light, fleet, rapid, fast”), from Proto-Indo-European *h₁ln̥gʷʰ-wih₂, feminine of *h₁léngʰus (“light”). Cognate with Avestan 𐬭𐬆𐬎𐬎𐬍 f (rəuuī). Also compare Georgian არაგვი (aragvi, name of a river), a borrowing from Iranian *(A)ragwī.

     इन्द्रो॒ यद् व॒ज्री धृ॒षमा॑णो॒ अंध॑सा भि॒नद् व॒लस्य॑ परि॒धीँर् इ॑व त्रि॒तः ॥

     abhí svávṛṣṭiṃ máde asya yúdhyato raghvī́r iva pravaṇé sasrur ūtáyaḥ.
     índro yád vajrī́ dhṛṣámāṇo áṃdhasā bhinád valásya paridhī́m̐r iva tritáḥ.

     Indra’s allies, invigorated by libations, charged ahead to battle the one who withheld the rain, rushing forward like swift rivers cascading down slopes.
     Strengthened by the Soma juice, Indra shattered Vala's defenses, just as Trita broke through the barriers of the well.

     उपे॑म् अस्थुर् जो॒ष्टार॑ इव॒ वस्वो॑ र॒घ्वीर् इ॑व॒ श्रव॑सो॒ भिक्ष॑माणाः ॥

     imā́ índraṃ váruṇaṃ me manīṣā́ ágmann úpa dráviṇam icchámānāḥ.
     úpem asthur joṣṭā́ra iva vásvo raghvī́r iva śrávaso bhíkṣamāṇāḥ.

     These thoughts of mine, desirous of gaining wealth, have proceeded to Indra and to Varuṇa.
