From Proto-Indo-European *ḱérus (“pointed stick, arrow, sword”). Cognate with Gothic 𐌷𐌰𐌹𐍂𐌿𐍃 (hairus, “sword”), Old Norse hjǫrr (“sword”), Old English heoru (“sword”).

  I bend the bow for Rudra that his arrow may strike and slay the hater of devotion.
