Cognate with Ahom 𑜀𑜄𑜫 (kat), Lao ກາດ (kāt), Shan ၵၢတ်ႇ (kàat), from Proto-Southwestern Tai *ka:tᴰ, which Pittayporn (2014) proposes to be from Late Han Chinese *kes, further from Old Chinese 芥 (OC *kreːds, “mustard plant”).[1]
