Believed to be a corruption of Old Khmer ច្ទិង៑ (cdiṅ), ច្ទិង្ង៑ (cdiṅṅ), ឆ្ទិង៑ (chdiṅ), ឆ្ទិង្ង៑ (chdiṅṅ, “river; stream”), corresponding to Modern Khmer ស្ទឹង (stɨng) + Old Khmer ជ្រៅ (jrau), ជ្រោវ៑ (jrov, “deep”), corresponding to Modern Khmer ជ្រៅ (crɨw); literally “deep river”; after the Bang Pakong River.[1]
