From รัฐ (rát, “state”) + ธรรมนูญ (tam-má-nuun, “charter”), literally “state charter”. Coined by Wan Waithayakon. Officially used for the first time in 1932. Formerly known by various terms, including คอนสติติวชั่น, คอนสติตูชั่น, ธรรมนูญการปกครอง, ธรรมนูญการปกครองแผ่นดิน, and merely ธรรมนูญ (tam-má-nuun).
