Etymology

Akin to Mingrelian ვე-თე (ve-te, bright meadow in dense forest, literally field-light), თეული (teuli, white spot on forehead). Klimov uncertainly derives from Proto-Kartvelian *te- (light), from which, according to him, Proto-Kartvelian *ten- : *tn- (to become visible, be getting light) is derived.
