From Jurchen wehe, from Proto-Tungusic *ure (mountain). Cognate with Evenki урэ (urə).

Alternatively, it may be derived from a Chukotko-Kamchatkan language, cf. Chukchi выквын (wəkwən, stone), from Proto-Chukotko-Kamchatkan *ɣəv(ɣəv) (stone).[1]
