From *pule, from Proto-Koreanic *pulɨkuj,[1] whence also Middle Korean 불휘〮 (pwùlhwúy, “root”) > Modern Standard Central Korean 뿌리 (ppuri, “root”), also Pyongan Korean 뿌레기 (ppuregi, “root”). Not attested in other Tungusic languages, including Jurchen. The native Tungusic equivalent is ᡩᠠ (da).
