뵙다

From Middle Korean 뵈〯ᅀᆞᆸ〯다〮 (Yale: pǒy-zǒp-tá), the subject-humbling/object-honoring form of 뵈〯다〮 (Yale: pǒy-tá), itself an honorific of 보다〮 (Yale: pwòtá).

뵙다 • (boepda) (irregular, infinitive 뵈워, sequential 뵈우니)

1. (highly humble) to see a very respected person (more humble than 뵈다 (boeda), itself a humble form of 보다 (boda))

   처음 뵙겠습니다. ― Cheo'eum boepgetseumnida. ― It is an honour to meet you.

   내일 뵙겠습니다. (e.g. by a lawyer to a client) ― Naeil boepgetseumnida. ― See you tomorrow.

• The expected conjugation given below is used in older texts and is standard in North Korea, but the South Korean school standard demands that the conjugation of 뵈다 (boeda) be used suppletively before verb-initial suffixes: hence 뵈어 (boeeo), 뵈니 (boeni), etc.
• In practice, South Koreans nowadays may be eliminating the original nuances between 뵈다 (boeda) and 뵙다 (boepda), instead using the stem 뵙 (boep) for all consonant-initial suffixes and 뵈 (boe) for all vowel-initial ones.
