Sumerian
Etymology
Probably a pre-Sumerian substrate word. Originally spelt ๐ญ๐๐พ (dล Eล na), with the last sign just being a phonetic complement. An r-Auslaut has been proposed on the basis of the poetic Akkadian term ๐ญ๐๐ (nannฤrum, โluminary, lightโ), an epithet of ๐ญ๐๐ช (Sรฎn) (the Akkadian moon god) or ๐๐ฏ (Iลกtar), but no inner-Sumerian evidence exists to support this hypothesis.
Proper noun
๐ญ๐๐ โข (dล Eล .KI, dnanna, dnannar /Nanna/)
- Nanna, the moon god, patron of Ur (corresponding to Akkadian Sin)
