Dutch
Etymology
First attested as duestervoert in 1357. Compound of duister (“dark, murky”) and voort (“ford”). Although the first element has been interpreted as being etymologically related to Middle Dutch does (“mossy fen, overgrown swamp”), it is more likely that the toponym derives from the murky water of the ford. Compare Lichtenvoorde.
