Etymology

From *ɔ̇k- (one) +‎ *-mis (lacking from ten). The first part is an unmetathesised continuation of Proto-Uralic *ükte.

Equivalent to Proto-Finnic *ükteksä (nine), itself also derived from *ükci (one).
