This template may be used in Wiktionary entries to format quotations from Joseph Hall's work Christian Moderation (1st edition, 1640). It can be used to create a link to an online version of the work at the Internet Archive.
The template takes the following parameters:
|1=
or |book=
– mandatory: the book number quoted from in Arabic numerals, either |book=1
or |book=2
.|2=
and |section=
, and/or |chapter=
– the work is divided into sections rather than chapters. Use |2=
or |section=
to specify the section number quoted from in uppercase Roman numerals, and/or |chapter=
to specify the name of the section.|3=
or |page=
, or |pages=
– mandatory in some cases: the page number(s) quoted from. When quoting a range of pages, note the following:
|pages=10–11
.|pageref=
to indicate the page to be linked to (usually the page on which the Wiktionary entry appears). The pagination begins from 1 in each book.
|4=
, |text=
, or |passage=
– the passage to be quoted.|footer=
– a comment on the passage quoted.|brackets=
– use |brackets=on
to surround a quotation with brackets. This indicates that the quotation either contains a mere mention of a term (for example, “some people find the word manoeuvre hard to spell”) rather than an actual use of it (for example, “we need to manoeuvre carefully to avoid causing upset”), or does not provide an actual instance of a term but provides information about related terms.{{RQ:Hall Christian Moderation|book=2|section=VII|chapter=The Fourth Rule of Moderation; to Rest in Those Fundamentall Truthes which are Revealed Clearely in the Scriptures|page=47|passage=There are indeed '''unfadomable''' depths in that Ocean {{quote-gloss|''i.e.'', the holy scriptures}}, vvherin vve ſhall vainly hope to pitch our anchor; but all neceſſary truthes need not much line: {{...}}|footer=A figurative use.}}
