The template automatically categorizes the entry into Category:Japanese nouns.

The entry is automatically added to Category:Japanese hiragana or Category:Japanese katakana as the case may be.

Parameters

General

|1= and |2=, |3= ...
The kana forms of the word, with transliteration markups.
  • In kana-titled entries, this parameter is optional. It can be used to provide transliteration markups, hiragana-katakana variant form, or links in the headword.
  • In entries whose titles are not pure kana, this parameter is required. Unlike in kana-titled entries, hiragana-katakana variant form and links in this parameter will be ignored. For links, use |head= instead.
Important: Template:ja-pos use a slightly different format. |1= is POS ("adverb", etc). All kana forms come after it starting from |2=.
|rom= (optional) and |rom2=, |rom3= ...
Manual transliteration that overrides the automatically generated ones.
|head= (optional) and |head2=, |head3= ...
Overrides the non-kana form used with the corresponding kana form to generate the displayed ruby headword. It may contain links and some ruby markups. This parameter has no effect in kana-titled entries.
|label= (optional) and |label2=, |label3= ...
A label to be displayed beside the corresponding displayed headword. E.g. |label2=less common.
|hist= (optional) and |hist2=, |hist3= ...
