From Punic 𐤕𐤍𐤂 (tng). This name could be related to the name of the city Tinghir.[1] Possibly cognate with Central Atlas Tamazight ⵜⴰⵏ (tan, “place of”), and Kabyle ɣer (“to call”), thus "port of call". More at Tangier.
