Dutch
Etymology
First attested as tritzum in 1406. Etymology uncertain. Difficult to interpret due to a paucity of old attestations. Potentially derived from a compound of Old Frisian Tritse (a personal name) and hēm (“home, settlement”). Alternatively, the name may derive from a pre-Germanic toponym. The Dutch form of the toponym was borrowed from an earlier version of the Frisian name. Compare Tredington.
