Welcome!

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

  • How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
  • Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide to Wikipedia users useful.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.

Also, please add a BabelBox to your userpage so we can help you with the languages you'll be working in.

I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.

languages

You seem to speak/read quite a wide variety of languages. --EncycloPetey (talk) 18:03, 28 December 2012 (UTC)Reply

Sorry I didn't reply until now, at the time you wrote me I was using Google Translate to add translations to pages here, then I realized that wasn't the best thing to do. I do speak English, Scots, and some Norfuk / Pitcairn and Novial, any translations into other languages I add are from interwiki links. --AmaryllisGardener (talk) 14:14, 9 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

atlas

I noticed that you listed the Latin translation of "atlas" as "atlas", and I'm curious where you found it - I haven't been able to find a reference to a Latin word "atlas" anywhere (aside from capital-A Atlas referring to the god), and my English-Latin dictionary just lists "orbis terrarum descriptio" as a translation. Mr. Granger (talk) 22:32, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

There is an article on the Latin Wikipedia called Atlas (cartographia). --AmaryllisGardener (talk) 22:43, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply
Huh. Very cool. Mr. Granger (talk) 23:17, 14 November 2013 (UTC)Reply

@Metaknowledge please forgive my one edit on ola, it was a mistake as I thought I was on Incubator when editing, I was working on a Scots Wiktionary Incubator project. I would appreciate it if you would have just simply talk to me before blocking me for one edit, this is my first block on any wiki to my knowledge. --AmaryllisGardener talk 19:03, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

I've unblocked you. Also, unless you copy over a massive number of modules and templates, making edits the way you did wouldn't work on the Scots Wiktionary anyway. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 19:08, 29 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
Hello Amaryllis Gardener, I am a student from McKinley Community school. I am doing a project on Nashville Tennessee Floods. However I need A Primary Source and I believe if I was able to talk to you than you could tell me more about Nashville floods. On a zoom call or maybe even coming in
