Hi there. For foreign words, the idea is that we just give the English translation. People can then look at the English entry to find translations in all the other languages. That avoids duplication. Keep up the good work. SemperBlotto 14:39, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
dog is a good example.
OK, I didn't realise.
I didn't realise that there was a difference.
In some languages the word will be different, especially in an inflected language where endings change depending on gender and number. SemperBlotto 14:55, 23 Apr 2005 (UTC)
No, in spanish, there is no difference at all.
The reason we use phonetic symbols is that all though tener is pronounced the way you apparently pronounce 'ten-AIR', that isn't the way I pronounce it. For me it would be more like 'tay-NAIR', to someone in the south 'AIR' is more of an 'EH-ya', to a spanish speaker 'ten' rhymes with 'main', to an english speaker 'ten' rhymes with 'men'... things become ambiguous when you write them that way. If you want to see more about what the symbols mean check out SAMPA and IPA - TheDaveRoss
I see. That's how we're taught to pronounce it at school but if you're a real spanish speaker then you know best. I just find it very useful to have an "English" sort of way of putting it because half of the characters don't even show up on my computer anyway. If you want me to stop putting that, then I will. I'm quite new to this lol...
Hello, I see you uploaded audio pronunciations of "Wiktionary" and "Wikipedia". Thank you. I am thrilled that someone else is taking an interest in audio and especially thrilled that somebody on the other side of the pond is taking an interest in audio. (I'm in California.) I don't know if we have help for creating and uploading audio yet, but if you do any more audio, please upload it to Commons. Uploading to Commons allows all wiki projects to use content. (For instance, brouhaha is a word in both English and French, so both Wiktionaries can use both files.) You can then use the template
*{{audio|en-uk-word.ogg|Audio (UK)}}
to link the file en-uk-word.ogg from Commons to the Wiktionary article for "word". Please don't hesitate to ask on my talk page if you have any questions on creating, uploading, or linking audio. --Dvortygirl 16:13, 27 December 2005 (UTC)
Just a quick word about format: I saw you reducing 4-level headers to 3-level headers at sap. While it's a good stab at cleanup (I don't want to discourage you), I just say that those headers should be at level 4 when there are multiple etymologies. This should give:
===Etymology 1=== ====Noun==== ====Verb==== =====Derived terms===== ===Etymology 2=== ====Noun==== etc.
Keep up the good work! Cheers. — Vildricianus 22:29, 6 February 2006 (UTC)
Welcome me :-P

Please try to be more diligent if you make further Spanish entries. The word medianoche is NOT masculine and you cannot say "al medianoche"; and there is no such word as mediadía. Medianoche is feminine (that’s why it’s media), and since día is masculine, it takes medio ... mediodía. —Stephen 16:29, 11 March 2006 (UTC)
Hey Celeste
What are you trying to do with your monobook, I've noticed you've been changing it a bit, anything I can help you with -- Tawker 17:07, 2 April 2006 (UTC)
Thanks for fixing my external links. I have never known how to do an elegant link and now I do. Andrew massyn 21:13, 10 May 2006 (UTC)
I've just made you a sysop. Congratulations! Enjoy your new responsibilities. If you need any help, contact any of the other sysops at WT:A. By the way, can you put your timezone on your user page so that we can enter it into the table at WT:A. Thanks. — Paul G 07:22, 23 May 2006 (UTC)
Homophones is part of the Pronunciation section, and therefore at level 4. Cheers. —Vildricianus 20:30, 25 May 2006 (UTC)
There was a method to my madness: the reason I tagged all those things rather than deleting them was so that RJFJR could look at them and fix his process, since he obviously needs to weed those sorts of things out automatically. Oh, well, I'm not going to add them back; he can look at the history. –Scs 16:08, 27 May 2006 (UTC)
Hello. Can you specify your e-mail? Cheers. —Vildricianus 10:33, 28 May 2006 (UTC)
Hi Celestianpower. I know this might sound a little weird, but could you please delete my user page. There are personal details in the history, and following the recent personal attacks on KateFan and Gator over on Wikipedia I am concerned they might be used against me. I would hate to suffer real-world consequences, which could be severe if such an attack was carried out against myself, for admin actions I carry out over at Wikipedia. Sorry to burden you with this, if you feel unable to carry this out I'll ask someone else. As you're an admin over there, I figured you would understand where I am coming from. Yours, Rje 18:34, 30 May 2006 (UTC)
It would be nice if there were a UK pronunciation here, too... :-) — Vildricianus 10:45, 13 June 2006 (UTC)
While I respect your opinion on the Kelly Martin vote at WT:C, I note that you did not vote for (or against) any of the other candidates. True, we have a native population to do the job, but not if none of them get enough votes to hold the position! bd2412 T 02:45, 17 September 2006 (UTC)
Hi Celestianpower. Could you license the two media files you have uploaded, Image:UK-Wiktionary.ogg and Image:UK pronunciation of Wikipedia.ogg? You can (preferably) specify any of the acceptable licenses listed at commons:Commons:Licensing#Acceptable_licenses, and just edit the image description page with the one you choose. Hi and thank you very much. We have used all your recordings you did. They are now on the page of English pronunciation: betawikiversity:Wiki-Wiki 1/Zvířátka. --betawikiversity:user:Juan 06:00, 16 April 2008 (UTC)
Hi, I would like to ask you one more time, if you could record these words: suni, jazykem, kráva, čtvrtým, neighbour, thinking, llorar, quique, giardino, tálib? Note that the words are in differnet languages, but I would like to ask you, if you can record them using English pronunciation. It is for the semi-research project called "Phonology and letter" (see: http://beta.wikiversity.orghttps://dictious.com/en/P%C5%99e%C4%8Dti_to_sv%C3%BDm_jazykem). Many thanks! --Juan at Wikiversity Beta 10:51, 12 May 2008 (UTC)
A plan is in the works to found a new UK chapter of the Wikimedia Foundation, and we are currently gathering support from the community. If you are interesting in being part of this new UK chapter as a member, a board member or as someone with a general interest in the chapter, please head over to m:Wikimedia UK v2.0 and let us know. We welcome help in making finishing touches to the plans. An election will be held shortly for the initial board, who will oversee the process of founding the company and accepting membership applications. They will then call an AGM to formally elect a new board, which will take the chapter forward, starting to raise funds and generally supporting the Wikimedia community in the UK. Thanks for your time. AndrewRT 22:28, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
I do not want to come across as contumelious but please consider casting your vote for the tile logo as—besides using English—the book logo has a clear directionality of horizontal left-to-right, starkly contrasting with Arabic and Chinese, two of the six official UN languages. As such, the tile logo is the only translingual choice left and it was also elected in m:Wiktionary/logo/archive-vote-4. Warmest Regards, :)--thecurran Speak your mind my past 02:49, 2 January 2010 (UTC)
It has been proposed that you be de-syssoped for inactivity. Please comment at Wiktionary:Votes/sy-2015-05/User:Celestianpower for de-sysop if you have any response to this proposal. Cheers! bd2412 T 02:03, 6 June 2015 (UTC)
