Welcome!

Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contributions so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:

  • How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
  • Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
  • Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
  • If you already have some experience with editing our sister project Wikipedia, then you may find our guide to Wikipedia users useful.
  • The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
  • We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.

Also, please add a BabelBox to your userpage so we can help you with the languages you'll be working in.

Interwikis

Interwiki links are handled by bots, not users, and must link to the same exact page on each language's Wiktionary. So jmjtw must link to an entry on cs.wiktionary called jmjtw if it exists, not any other entry even if it has the same meaning in a different script. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 20:01, 5 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

Yes of course. What could You recommend in this case, when user Danny B. created the same entry on cs.wiktionary? I think the best way would be ask him to rename the entry to cs:jmjtw also regarding to fact, that (absolute) most of users cannot entry 𓏶𓅓𓏭𓏏𓏲 neither see/read (i.e. only see nonuderstandable squares with letters&numbers), nor find it. What is Your opinion? Thanks.
That sounds like a good idea, but that's a matter of policy in cs.wiktionary, so I have no say in the matter. —Μετάknowledgediscuss/deeds 08:46, 6 April 2015 (UTC)Reply

IPA correction

Thank you for the heads up on surrealismus IPA. The correction consisted in telling {{cs-IPA}} how to pronounce the word by using a phonetic spelling, here {{cs-IPA|sirealizmus}}. Thanks again. --Dan Polansky (talk) 16:05, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Thank you for correcture very much, I don't quite well catch understanding of en.wikt.templates system. Sorry for disturbing. --Kusurija (talk) 17:01, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply
No disturbance at all. I am just trying to show you how you can easily add any Czech pronunciation yourself, or correct it. {{cs-IPA}} is not being substed; it is used without a parameter when the pronunciation is straightforward and it is used with phonetic spelling parameter when something strange is going on. --Dan Polansky (talk) 17:12, 5 September 2019 (UTC)Reply

Further reading - Czech templates

Good morning, I found some problems with Czech template Template:PSJC. If you have some word with diacritics it doesn't work very well, see člověk or ptáček. It does similar with Template:SSJC, but still finds the right word. I don't know if You can fix it, if not pass it on please.

Dobrý den. Zjistila jsem, že se zde vyskytují nějaké problémy s českou šablonou Template:PSJC. Pokud máme slovo s diakritikou, šablona nefunguje příliš dobře, viz člověk nebo ptáček. Podobně se chová is Template:SSJC, přesto SSJČ vyhledá správné slovo. Nevím, zda to můžete spravit, pokud ne, předejte to prosím dál.

@DenisaCZ: Could you explain more subtle (in details) to me, where and what problem is there. As I can see, those templates were not created yet on en.wikt. Thank you. --Kusurija (talk) 09:30, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
@Kusurija: Have you seen the entries? If You click on a link below Further reading it redirects You to %C4%8Dlov%C4%9Bk (člověk) and not to člověk
@DenisaCZ: I contacted Martin Urbanec, maybe he could help. --Kusurija (talk) 10:14, 5 March 2021 (UTC)Reply
