Welcome!
Hello, welcome to Wiktionary, and thank you for your contribution so far. Here are a few good links for newcomers:
- How to edit a page is a concise list of technical guidelines to the wiki format we use here: how to, for example, make text boldfaced or create hyperlinks. Feel free to practice in the sandbox. If you would like a slower introduction we have a short tutorial.
- Entry layout explained (ELE) is a detailed policy documenting how Wiktionary pages should be formatted. All entries should conform to this standard, the easiest way to do this is to copy exactly an existing page for a similar word.
- Our Criteria for inclusion (CFI) define exactly which words Wiktionary is interested in including. There is also a list of things that Wiktionary is not for a higher level overview.
- The FAQ aims to answer most of your remaining questions, and there are several help pages that you can browse for more information.
- We have discussion rooms in which you can ask any question about Wiktionary or its entries, a glossary of our technical jargon, and some hints for dealing with the more common communication issues.
I hope you enjoy editing here and being a Wiktionarian! If you have any questions, bring them to the Wiktionary:Information desk, or ask me on my talk page. If you do so, please sign your posts with four tildes: ~~~~ which automatically produces your username and the current date and time.
Again, welcome! --Jagwar 18:18, 1 January 2012 (UTC)Reply
I would like to welcome you also, ᏳᎴᏂ, though I'm a little late.
It looks like you've made just about 200 contributions to Wiktionary in ᏣᎳᎩ. I don't personally speak or read Cherokee, but I do have two Cherokee apps for learning the syllabary that I look at sometimes.
At the English Wiktionary, we recently started a mentoring program and a project for lesser-documented languages.
If you have any questions, you can click "community portal" at the left to see the community forums. You can also leave a message here or on my talk page, and I'll try to respond as soon as possible.
I couldn't find the Cherokee word for goodbye on Wiktionary, so I will sign off with: Cheers! --BB12 (talk) 07:45, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
- I almost forgot: Could you add a "Babel box" to your user page? Just as an example, if you are a mother-tongue speaker of Cherokee and English, and very fluent in French, you would use the following code:
- {{Babel|chr|en|fr-4}}
- "chr" is the three-letter ISO code for Cherokee. No number means "native speaker" and levels are numbered from 0 (almost nothing) to 4 (like a native, but not a mother tongue speaker). You can find more information about the Babel box at WT:Babel. --BB12 (talk) 07:52, 12 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
ᎣᏏᏲ! You can say ᏙᎾᏓᎪᎲ (donadagohv) for "good-bye" in Cherokee. Thank you for the welcome. I will be adding more Cherokee vocabulary from time to time when I get the chance. Take care! ᏳᎴᏂ (talk) 14:44, 13 August 2012 (UTC)Reply
- ᎠᎾᎵᎮᎵᎬ.
- It looks like you might have copied the Babel box code in too directly. It says that you are a native speaker of Cherokee and English, and near native in French, which is the configuration I used as an example :)
- ᏙᎾᏓᎪᎲ.
