Evolved from asıntı in colloquial vernacular,[1] possibly through false analogy to the suffix -gin,[2][3] from Ottoman Turkish آصمق (aṣmaḳ, to hang up, to suspend),[4] from Proto-Turkic *as- (to hang),[5][6] morphologically as- +‎ -(k)ın +‎ -tı.
