Etymology 1

From Old Anatolian Turkish (böyle), which is attested in the XIVth-century Anatolian epic Danishmendnâme. Origination from merging of bu (this) and ile, ilə (with) (thus, from an expression that had the meaning with it) has been suggested. Starostin et al. reject this with a reference to a proposed Proto-Turkic form *bEd-le, which they reconstruct with the support of Karakhanid (böyle), Turkish böyle, Turkmen beýle, Azerbaijani belə and Salar bele, that is, based almost exclusively on Oghuz material.
