Etymology 1

From Ottoman Turkish طوقونمق (dokunmak, “to touch, be in contact, affect, concern, injure, excite emotion”), reflexive form of Proto-Turkic *tokï- (“to hit, knock, strike”).

Cognate with Old Turkic (tokı-, “to hit, knock”), Karakhanid (tokın-, “to hit, bump into”), Azerbaijani toxunmaq (“to touch”), Kazakh тоқылдау (toqyldau, “to knock”), Tuvan токкулаар (tokkulaar, “to tap, knock”), Uyghur توقۇنماق (toqunmaq, “to touch”), Uzbek toʻqinmoq (“to touch”).
