From Middle Welsh dosparth; By surface analysis, dy- + gosbarth, gwosbarth (“order, rule, government”).[1]
The latter is either (1) from gos- (“meaningless prefix”) + parth (“zone, region, part”),[2] (with gos-, gwos- equivalent to go- + es-) or (2) from go- + a reflex of Proto-Indo-European *sper-.[1]
