Etymology
Inherited from Old Anatolian Turkish قَزَانْمَقْ (qazanmaq, “to gain money, to earn”), from Proto-Turkic *kaŕgan-, a derivation from Proto-Turkic *kaŕ-, whence kazmaa. Nişanyan suggests the derived verb may have been initially derived from Proto-Turkic *kaŕ-ıg (“dug up item”), however, this is not certain. Compare Turkish kazanmak, Azerbaijani qazanmaq. [1]
