It replaced an earlier form with -n-: Old Norse lækna, from Proto-Germanic *lēkinōną (to heal), cognate with Gothic 𐌻𐌴𐌺𐌹𐌽𐍉𐌽 (lēkinōn), Old English lǣcnian, Old Saxon lāknon, Old High German lāhhinon. Compare (Western) Old Norse læknir where the opposite happened, the noun being reshaped on the basis of the verb.
