Borrowed from English pyjamas, with spelling pronunciation, from pai jamahs (“loose trousers tied at the waist, worn by Muslims in India”), adopted by colonials, especially for nightwear, probably from Hindi पैजामा (paijāmā, “pajama”), itself from Persian پایجامه.
