töva
Same as Old Swedish töva, from Middle Low German toven (“wait, delay, obstruct”), from Proto-Germanic *tabjan-, from Proto-Indo-European *dobʰ-éie-, see also Sanskrit दिप्सति (dipsati, “to deceive”).
Cognate with Norwegian, Danish and Old Danish tøve. It seems Old Swedish made a difference between töva and tövra, the latter derived from Middle Low German togern and German zögern.
