Either diminutive of Ancient Greek ἄγγουρον (ángouron) from ἄγγουρος from ἄγουρος (ágouros)[1] or alternatively from Arabic عَجُّور (ʕajjūr) (see synonym αντζούρι (antzoúri)) or from Persian "angarah" with under the influence of and [2] phonetically similar to ἄγγουρος (ángouros)[3]
