Erzya

Etymology

From Proto-Mordvinic *veśə, inherited from Proto-Uralic *we(ń)ćɜ (every, all, whole). Cognate with Udmurt воч (voć), Komi-Zyrian вач (vać), possibly cognate with Hungarian össze (together). The Uralic word may be borrowed from Indo-Iranian; compare Proto-Iranian *wícwah (all, every; whole).

Alternative theories suggest a borrowing from Russian весь (vesʹ, all) or a derivation from Proto-Mordvinic *vej (one) +‎ *śe (this); compare Moksha сембе (śembe, all).
