From earlier خوراسان(xwarāsān), from Middle Persianhwlʾsʾn'(xwarāsān, literally “sunrise; east”). Equivalent to خور(xwar, “sun”) + آسان(âsân, “coming”). آسان(âsân) is the Parthian conjugation of a verb meaning “to come, to rise”.
