Etymology

Inherited from Sauraseni Prakrit 𑀢𑁂𑀭𑀲 (terasa), from Ashokan Prakrit 𑀢𑁆𑀭𑁂𑀟𑀰 (treḍaśa), 𑀢𑁆𑀭𑁃𑀟𑀰 (traiḍaśa), 𑀢𑁂𑀤𑀲 (tedasa), Proto-Indo-Aryan *tráyazdaśa, from Proto-Indo-Iranian *tráyazdaća, from Proto-Indo-European *tréyesdeḱm̥, from *tréyes (three) + *déḱm̥ (ten). The Middle Indo-Aryan forms appear to continue *trai- ~ *trayē- rather than Sanskrit त्रयोदश (tráyodaśa); compare Pali terasa.
