Dear Donnanz,

we are initiating a long needed action - we would like to translate names of all Wikimedia languages to all Wikimedia languages in the next two months. We have noticed that you are very active on Wiktionary and that is the reason why we are taking liberty to contact you.

We hope that you would be interesting to help us in our endeavor - To make this action easier we have already prepared the list of all Wikimedia languages, and for each language we have already prepared the page with existing and missing translations. So when you go to the page for your language you would have two tasks - to check whether existing translations are OK and to fill in the missing one. The more detailed instruction are on the language page.

What are the benefits of this work?

• We believe it is about time to have all Wikimedia languages translated to all Wikimedia languages :)
• Translated languages will be parsed into Wiktionary and the resulting number of Wiktionary entries will be significant for each language. That could significantly increase the number of entries for less developed Wiktionaries, and improve the quality of entries in general.
• Wikidata - this would be great contribution to Wikidata.
• All other projects could benefit from this list (Wiki Travel :)), as we believe that certain amount of terms has to be properly translated to all languages.

We are gathered around the project Wiktionary Meets Matica Srpska and we hope that you would be interesting in working with us! If you have any questions you can ask them on the Names of Wikimedia languages discussion page or via personal emails.

Important notice: The data are licensed under CC0, as they should be incorporated into Wikidata at the end of the process.

You know, it isn't strictly necessary to add interwikis? Especially if some already exist. Bots will eventually find their way and do it for you. I do it myself sometimes just for fun so I don't mean to say it's wrong... Just not necessary :) On another note: Have you tried out the editor.js yet? It you want to have a go at the articles needing translations into English it would certainly speed up the process compared to opening the editor window and writing all the code. I need more people trying it before I go ahead and try to implement it as a standard feature. Regards,

OK about interwikis and bots, but I think I will still add them for English if I'm creating a new English entry. After all, the bots may take years before they get round to doing it.

I have implemented it for you now. You now have a new user page called Bruker:Donnanz/common.js. It basically gives you the same interface for adding translations as the one they have at enwikt. Try looking at translations for gutt. You might have to do a refresh by pressing Ctrl while clicking Refresh or pressing Ctrl-F5 before you see the new feature.

Just a small thing you might want to consider using – there is a gadget for adding translations without having to edit the wikitext. It works on most pages, and I think it makes adding translations a little bit easier. Mewasul (diskusjon) 16. okt. 2018 kl. 08:47 (CEST)Svar

It should be quite straight-forward. :) With regards to English inflections, I know the system isn't perfect. I don't have a big motivation for making it perfect either, because I think that seems like something we should synchronize across all Wiktionaries, using Wikidata. I'm hoping other people are thinking of that too, and that it's not too far away time-wise. At the moment it's too much of a copy-paste thing. I don't doubt that you have done a lot of work, and I don't doubt that it has value. But conceptually it makes more sense to me that we should add all inflection patterns to a central data base and just get them from that data base, instead of making different templates showing the same inflection across the different language versions of Wiktionary. Same goes for e.g. etymology, derived terms, etc. Definitions and translations are language-specific though, so we would still need to define that.
