Inherited from Old Ruthenian лꙗгати (ljahati), from the earlier Old Ruthenian лѣгати (lěhati) with the root лѣг- (lěh-) leveled with the nasalized forms: Old Ruthenian лѣчилѧже, лѧгѫ, лꙗжъ (lěči → ljaže, ljahu, ljaž), from Old East Slavic лѣгати (lěgati), from Proto-Slavic *lěgati (see *leťi). By surface analysis, лягти́ (ljahtý) +‎ -а́ти (-áty).
