Borrowed from French idéologie, coined in 1796 by Antoine Destutt de Tracy[1][2] as a compound of Ancient Greek ἰδέα (idéa) + -λογῐ́ᾱ (-logíā). With -ло́гія (-lóhija) ending. Compare Russian идеоло́гия (ideológija), Belarusian ідэало́гія (idealóhija), Polish ideologia.
