Of Iranian origin. Compare Inscriptional Parthian 𐭀𐭓𐭅𐭎𐭕 (ʾrwst, virtue), Old Persian (aruvasta-, activity, physical prowess). The ending was perhaps contaminated with the suffix -ստ (-st).
